Formerly the bass clarinetist with the New Orleans Symphony, Tony Brackett has performed with New York City Opera, American Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theater, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Mostly Mozart Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New York Pops, Martha Graham Dance Company, Dance Theater of Harlem, Goldman Band and Singapore Symphony. Tony has collaborated with the Emerson String Quartet, Shanghai String Quartet, Borealis Wind Quintet, Dorian Quintet, Blue Door, VentiCordi, Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Patti Lupone, Donny & Marie Osmond, Bob McGrath, Three Irish Tenors, The Moody Blues, Maureen McGovern, Andrea Bocelli, Midori, Placido Domingo, Andre Watts, Tatiana Troyanos and Bugs Bunny.
Tony received degrees from the Hartt School of Music and attended graduate school at the Manhattan School of Music. He participated in the National Repertory Orchestra, Waterloo Festival, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and the Monteux School & Music Festival. Broadway show credits include Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King & I, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, Cole Porter’s Cancan and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Tony has recorded for Sony, Sarabande, QRecords, and Telarc labels and for television, radio and films.
In addition to maintaining a private clarinet studio Tony is on the faculty of The Juilliard School’s Pre-College Program, Amherst College, formerly taught in Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program, was consultant to the Morgan Library and Museum’s Family Concert Series, adjudicated for CMEA, served as President, Orchestra Manager and adjudicator for the New England Music Festival Association and was manager of NAfME’s National Honors Orchestra. His students have participated in CT, MA and NY All-State Festivals, New England Music Festival, NAfME’s All-Eastern Honors Band, The John Philip Sousa Junior & Senior National Honors Bands, Hershey’s All-USA High School Band, Juilliard Pre-College Program, Manhattan School of Music Preparatory Program, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, Brevard, and Interlochen.
Tony makes his home in Amherst, MA with his husband, twin children, and dog, as well as uninvited rabbits, woodchucks, and an invasion of ladybugs. In his spare time he navigates the allergies that are native to the Pioneer Valley.
