Meredith Lord is currently the director of Worcester’s Music Magnet Program for Burncoat High School where she teaches Theory 1 and 2, AP Music Theory, directs the orchestra, band, pep band and jazz band and is advisor for the BHS Chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Hired in the Worcester Public Schools district in February 2005, Meredith’s versatility as an educator have brought her to the classrooms of general music, chorus, small-group instrumental lessons as well as band and orchestra for Pre-K through 12th grade. She is so grateful and happy to work with her students and colleagues every day. She receive her B.A. in Music Ed (2005) and M.A. Music Ed. (2008) from UMASS Amherst.
Advocacy for arts and music education for all is incredibly important to her. She has served on the Music Worcester Board of Directors and Education Committee since September 2011, has been the High School Representative for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association since July 2019 and served as the Middle School Rep from 2017 – 2019. She also has sat on the Support Our Fine Arts (SOFA) Burncoat Quadrant Board since 2017.
Meredith enjoys performing on the flute and piccolo with the Valley Winds under the direction of Brian Messier and with the Bay State Winds under the direction of Peter Lewis. In the past, she has performed with the Harmonie Transverse flute choir out of Holden, MA and the Metropolitan Flute Orchestra at NEC under the direction of Paige Long.
Outside of music and teaching, Meredith enjoys time with her husband, Dave, daughter, Evelyn and Australian Shepard, Presto! She loves working in the large garden on her family’s farm every spring and summer and skiing, skating and snowshoeing or traveling to visit with her friends in the winter. Being out in nature and hiking are some of Meredith’s favorite things to do.
