Melissa Munafo is a trumpet player in the Valley Winds and the band and choral director at STEM Middle Academy in Springfield, MA. She is in her fifth year of teaching in the Massachusetts public school system. Melissa began her teaching career in the Lynn public school system in 2014 and taught at Lynn Classical High where she directed the bands and taught music theory and piano. She was also the drumline instructor for the Lynn All-City Marching Band. In 2019, Melissa was nominated as a Quarterfinalist for the 2019 Grammy Music Educator of the Year award.
Melissa received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire where she received a full-tuition scholarship for her success and achievement as a trumpet player. In her years of experience in education she has mastered the technique and performance of many musical instruments. Melissa is also a freelance singer and songwriter. She loves working with and inspiring her students as well as engaging the community with her performances.
