Duncan Hurst

Duncan Hurst began his musical career at the age of ten when he began taking bagpipe lessons. Getting involved in local competitions, he soon joined the Stuart Highlanders Pipe Band, a bagpipe band from Wilmington, MA. Duncan competed in band competitions across the eastern United States, Canada, and Scotland and later competed in the World Pipe Band Championships in 2014 and 2015 with the Stuart Highlanders. He also performs at weddings, funerals, and other events.

Duncan began tuba in seventh grade. He went toured with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013. Duncan later attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst studying music education and was a part of the concert band, marching band, university chorale, symphony band, wind ensemble, orchestra, and jazz ensemble. Duncan also participated in a number of chamber groups including brass quintet and tuba quartet.

Duncan is currently a middle school music teacher at Narragansett Middle School. He directs the choir, teaches general music, and works with the marching band. Duncan also teaches individual low brass lessons for Belchertown Public Schools.
