Charlotte Oullette

Charlotte Ouellette is an active educator and clarinetist residing in Amherst, Massachusetts. A northern Vermont native, Charlotte moved to western Massachusetts in the fall of 2015 to pursue her undergraduate degree in music education and clarinet performance at UMass Amherst. Charlotte has performed as the principal clarinetist of the UMass Wind Ensemble, as well as with the UMass Symphony Orchestra, the UMass Symphony Band, the Windham Chamber Orchestra, and the Valley Winds. In the spring of 2019, Charlotte was a featured soloist in the Worcester Schubertiade’s “Celebration of Youth” concert series having won their Classical Idol Competition. At UMass student, Charlotte also played in the UMass Marching Band and was a member of the clarinet field staff.

Through the Commonwealth Honors College at the University of Massachusetts, Charlotte recently completed her senior honors thesis titled The Role of Classical Music in the Face of Social and Political Injustice, a research project inspired by Charlotte’s experience serving with a Southeast Asia ministry organization that fights modern-day sex trafficking. Her senior recital, a part of her project, featured pieces that related to issues of social and political injustice. Charlotte is also an alumna member of the international music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota.

Charlotte has studied with Elisabeth Betsy LeBlanc and Steve Klimowski of the Burlington Chamber Orchestra and Michael Sussman of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, Charlotte received her Bachelor of Music degree from UMass Amherst where she studied with Romie de Guise-Langlois. Charlotte is the band director at the Springfield High School of Science and Technology where she co-directs the Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the Mentoring Through Music Program (MTM). She also coaches chamber ensembles and teaches music lessons for students. In her spare time, Charlotte can be found reading a book, playing and writing music, traveling, and drinking lots of coffee.
